Schizophrenia is a severe and chronic mental disorder characterised by a range of symptoms that can include delusions, hallucinations, disordered thinking, and altered behaviour. These symptoms can lead to significant difficulties in daily functioning, including problems with work, social relationships, and self-care. Schizophrenia is believed to result from a combination of genetic and environmental factors, and it is thought to be associated with imbalances in certain neurotransmitters in the brain, as well as structural and functional changes in the brain. The exact causes of schizophrenia are not yet fully understood. Treatment typically involves a combination of antipsychotic medication and psychotherapy.
